What is the Big Woolly Weekend?
On Saturday the 10th of june it is World wide Knitting in Public Day (KIP) and Sunday the 11th June is Yarn bombing day. The Weekend event is an opportunity to learn to knit or crochet or to share your ideas and passion for all things woolly.
World Wide Knit in Public day is the largest knitter run event in the world. It started in 2005 and is now celebrated in 57 different countries (2016).
The Mission is
"Better Living through stitching together"!
We will be hosting an all day Stitch Away on the 10th June in both shops so come along and join us. We will let you know more details as they are finalised!
Bergere de France are running a competition - knit as many squares (not triangles, as squares are easier to sew up into blankets) as possible to create the bunting with the most squares as you can in your area! (at least 20cm square) So gather as many people to help out as possible and start knitting as soon as possible! To register for and for more information on the competition please visit their website.
The bunting can then be offered to a 'The Great Get Together' event in honour of Jo Cox, please visit their website for information on local events or on how to arrange your own.
We now have some free yarn available in store for knitting the squares, for individuals and knitting/crochet groups. Pop in to collect some! We are also be a collection point so drop in your knitted squares and bunting and we will send them off to Knit for Peace where they will be used to make blankets.

I discovered last week that Tracey at bluebirdanddaisy.wordpress.com has been creating beautiful crochet patterns and tutorials. I fell in love with her pattern for a daisy centered granny type square and gorgeous blue bird. I made my first square in the shop using baby yarn as my Mum had suggested that the squares joined would make a lovely baby blanket, and I have to agree.
Yesterday saw the launch of the Groovyghan crochet-a-long 2016 and we are very excited! The first block was released last night and is available on the Keep Calm blog, https://keepcalmandcrochetonuk.wordpress.com/. We will be crocheting along every other Saturday starting the 16th January during Stitch Away and every other Tuesday from the 19th January. Come along if you fancy some company. You don't need to come to all sessions and all we ask is a donation for refreshments. I have spoken to the designer and she would love to see photos of our customers progress.
Happy New Year everyone! Now the mad dash to complete Christmas projects is over, we have been busy thinking about new projects and blankets seem to be top of the list. Last year saw a lot of crochet along and knit alongs being released and this year there appear to be even more.
I started the year by embarking on a temperature blanket. Temperature blankets and scarves have taken the knitting and crochet world by storm. The lovely thing about it is there is no set pattern. You can use any stitch you like, do rows, squares, circles, make scarves, blankets, toys and can knit, crochet or quilt - whatever makes you happy. There are no set colours either, you decide on what colours you want to use to represent different temperatures. I am crocheting a linen stitch blanket and have decided on a 2 degree scale starting with cream for -5 going through purples, blues, greens, yellows and reds. I have started mine from my 40th birthday and will end it on my 41st. Pop in to find out more.
Next on the list is a crochet along and there are are so many to choose from, it's only the first week of January! Below are a few examples.

I will be doing the Groovyghan mystery blanket myself. If you fancy having a go at this then join me and a couple of others every other Saturday at Stitch Away from the 16th January or every Tuesday from the 19th January. Donation for tea and coffee.

Cullompton’s market place will be awash with poppies next month as the town marks Armistice Day with its very own act of Remembrance.
The people of the town are being invited to participate in a public art project which is a partnership between Cullompton Arts House, Fudge’s Wool and Haberdashery Shop, the Royal British Legion, Town Council and local Churches.
During the week starting 26th October you can pop into the shop to knit or crochet your own poppy and on the 27th October from 2:30pm to 4pm you can pop along and make a felt poppy.
There are also poppy packs that can be purchased for a donation to make your own poppy at home. Poppies made can either be donated to the display or worn personally.
Poppies created for the display will be turned into a public art installation on Remembrance Sunday and dedicated as part of the town’s civic service. Members of the public can then add to it during the days leading up to Armistice Day on 11th November.
The proceeds of the sale of poppies and materials to make them will be donated to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
We have been wondering why Stylecraft don't do one of their rather popular ranges of wool in a Super Chunky, we had planned to ask our lovely rep Maureen when she called next. Well, she called this morning and can you guess what she brought to show us in some lovely shades? Needless to say we ordered some!
Just a reminder we still have lots of yarns in the sale including Sirdar Snowflake Chunky in lots of shades.
See you soon, Tori
We have some lovely new Stylecraft yarn in stock in all shades. The beautiful Cabaret retailing at £4.98 a 100g ball, the gorgeous Carnival chunky for £4.35 a 100g ball and the variegated Special Effects at £2.99 a 100g ball. Regular customer Janet has just completed her 100th Fish and chip baby vest using this fabulous yarn. Well done Janet!
Images of the yarns can be found at:
To celebrate the Cullompton Town Festival which starts on the 27th July we are having a sale on selected yarns and patterns. Visit our Festival Sale page on our website for further details.
We're getting our wigs on to support children and young people with cancer. Feel free to come wearing a wig to our stitch away on the 20th May, we will provide the tea, coffee and biscuits, any donations will go to Clic Sargent. Pop in and enter the 'what a lot of wigs' competition for your chance to win a knitters storage bag.
Wow! What a fantastic day we had last Saturday on Love Your Yarn Shop Day. Despite the soggy bank holiday weather we met lots of new faces. We would like to thank Pam, Sandie, Janet and everyone else who helped us make the window look so colourful with all the woolly items they lent us. Our first ever Saturday Stitch Away was such a success that it is now going to be a weekly event! There was such a diverse age range who came along, which just goes to show you are never too young or old to express your creativity. We hope to be able to hold a similar day later in the year.
Part 2 of the Stylecraft crochet along was released this week entitled Tiny Lily. This is a beautiful block of an emerging lily and lots of these would look equally as lovely made into a blanket of their own. Here are mine and Tracey's Tiny Lily block alongside our Wave and Stripe block.
