Wimbledon Challenge - Day 14

Just like that, we are on the final day of Wimbledon and the last of the squares are released. We can’t wait to see what you do with them. Details of dates for the challenges can be found here (prize for uk entrants only, sorry).

So, today is about the trophy and in particular the pineapple that sits on top of the Wimbledon trophy (did you know that?!).

 Knitted Square

Abbreviations: k = knit, p= purl, k2tog = knit two together, sl = slip stitch knit wise, psso = pass slipped stitch over, yf = bring yarn in front

Cast on 33 stitches or a multiple of 10 + 3

  1. Knit
  2. purl

  5. k1, k2tog, k3 *yf, k1, yf, k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3. Repeat from * to last 7 stitches. Yf, k1, yf, k3, sl 1, k1, psso, k1
  6. purl
  7. k1, k2tog, k2, *yf, k3, yf, k2, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k2. Repeat from * to last 8 stitches. Yf, k3, yf, k2, sl 1, k1, psso, k1
  8. purl
  9. k1, k2tog, k1, * yf, k5, yf, k1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k1. Repeat from * to last 9 stitches. Yf, k5, yf, k1, sl 1, k1, psso, k1

  19. Repeat rows 5 - 18 once more
  20. Repeat rows 1- 4 once more then cast off.

Crochet Square

Abbrieviations: ch = chain, ch sp = chain space, dc = double crochet, tr = treble

Chain 31 or a multiple of 15 chains + 1

  1. Dc into 2nd chain from hook and each chain to end. Turn
  2. Ch 3 (counts as first treble here and throughout pattern). Tr in every stitch to end. Turn.
  3. Ch1, dc into each stitch across. Turn.
  4. Ch3, tr in the next two stitches , *ch 2, skip the next four stitches and then make 7tr all in to the next stitch. Ch2, skip the next four stitches then tr into the next 6 stitches. Repeat from *until the end, finishing with 3 trs .
  5. Ch3 and tr in the next stitch. Ch2 and then *tr, ch1 into each of the next 6 stitches. Tr in next stitch. Ch2, skip the first tr, tr into each of next 4 stitches, skip next tr.  Ch 2 and repeat from * ending with a tr in each of the last 2 stitches.
  6. Ch3 and tr in the next stitch. Ch2,  *in the first ch 1 sp of the fan make 1 dc, ch3, repeat in all the fan chain spaces (without making a chain 3 after the final dc).  Ch2, skip the first tr, 1 tr in each of next 2stitches, skip tr. Ch 2 and repeat from * ending with a tr in each of last 2 stitches.
  7. Ch3 and tr in the next stitch. Ch2,  *in each 3 ch sp loop make 1 dc and chain 3, Omitting the final ch3. Chain 2 and make a tr each of the next 2stitches. Ch2 and repeat from * ending with a tr in each of the last 2 stitches
  8. Ch3 and make 2 tr into the next tr. Chain 2 and then *in each 3 ch sp loop make 1 dc and chain 3, Omitting the final ch3. Ch 2,  2tr in each of the the next two stitches. Ch2 and repeat from * ending with 2tr into the next stitch and 1 tr  in the final stitch.
  9. Ch3 , tr in next stitch, 2tr in the next stitch. Ch2 and then *in each 3 ch sp loop make 1 dc and chain 3, Omitting the final ch3. Ch 2 and make 2 tr in the first stitch, make 1 tr in the next 2 stitches and then 2tr in the next stitch . Ch 2 and repeat from * ending with 2 tr in the next stitch, 1 tr in the final two stitches.
  10. Ch3, tr in the next two stitches,  2tr in the next stitch. Ch2 and then *in the 3 ch sp 1 dc, ch 3, 1dc in the final ch sp. Ch 2 and make 2tr in the first stitch, make 1tr in the next 4 stitches and then 2tr in the next stitch . Ch2 and repeat from * ending with 2tr into the next stitch and 1tr in the final three stitches.
  11. Ch 3, tr in the next 3 stitches and make 2tr in the next stitch. Ch2 *in the 3 ch sp 1dc. Ch 2 and make 2tr in the first tr, make 1 tr in the next 6 stitches and then 2tr in the next tr. Ch2 and repeat from * ending with 2tr in the next stitch and 1tr in the final four stitches.
  12. Ch 3, 1 tr in each stitch placing 2tr in ch spaces. Turn
  13. ch1, dc in each stitch and fasten off.
